I really don't aim to have a big Twitter presence, so when one of my tweets actually went viral today it was kind of exciting. Luckily it wasn't anything embarrassing or NSFW. So far 12,500 people have seen it, according to the Twitter stats.

This is still very minor league, and I don't expect this to happen again :-)

I didn't know downloading my Facebook archive was possible! Late last year I downloaded all 13 years of my current LJ account's stuff, in case the service went poof someday (I have an older LJ account that I abandoned when I created this account, and it looks like I archived that long ago). One of the weird things to me about viral social media is that lots of people become obsessed about individual cases that may or may not reflect statistical models of the entire population. This one person was raped. This one animal was killed. This one human was killed. These viral stories represent, to me, the primacy of anecdotes over data. ( Read more... )
